Big
A big event!
2000
Big (2000) was a one-off show in the spirit of Septet/2 (1998) and used the same performers as in Dome (2000). In following Cunningham’s Events methodology, it combined several sections of existing repertoire into one ‘event’, principally by drawing on the rhythmic beating of clubs against the body from Remembering Rastelli (1999), the calling of numbers associated with particular throws from what would become Siteswaps (2002), and various club-passing routines from Dome (2000). The piece as a whole was framed by the background sound of jugglers Tomoko Tokushige and Norihide Tokushige counting from 1 to 1,000 in Japanese, and the music was mixed live by Gill Clarke and Sean Phillips. This became a precursor to the show 10,000 (2003).
